The Full Tilt Poker Million Dollar Cash Game was held in London over the weekend, fulfilling its promise of non-stop, high-stakes action between some of today’s most fearsome professional poker players. When the lights went out, Phil Ivey had walked away the biggest winner of the night, up over half a million dollars.
Among the star-studded participants – within the world of poker, anyway – were Patrik Antonius, David Benyamine, Doyle Brunson, Allen Cunningham, Tom “durrr” Dwan, Tony G, Phil Hellmuth, Phil Ivey, Mike Matusow and many others.
In its first two seasons, the FullTilt Poker Million Dollar Cash Game has created an incredible stir of conversation, airing some of the most interesting and top-viewed poker pots in the poker broadcasting business. Now in its third season, I think it’s safe to say the January 2009 airing of the high stakes cash game on Sky Sports will be no exception.
The two-day event in London came to a close with Phil Ivey up $536,400 – the clear winner of the event. Mike “The Mouth” Matusow also finished with a hefty profit of $about $130,000. On the reverse end of the spectrum came Tom “durrr” Dwan and Patrik Antonius, who suffered the biggest losses throughout the event.
And what would a high stakes cash game be without Phil Hellmuth making a scene? Oh yes, in true Hellmuth fashion, he stormed out of the room after losing a substantial pot.
Phil Ivey has experienced some rough waters as of late, having a less than noteworthy run at the 2008 WSOP and a few prop bets he’d probably rather forget about. His online poker play over the last few months has been immaculate, however, and this latest victory at the FullTilt.com Million Dollar Cash Game will only prove to bolster his confidence going into the WSOPE.
