It was another stellar weekend at the world’s largest online poker room as PokerStar.com hosted it’s most lucrative weekly events this weekend. UltimateBetPoker Pro Phil Hellmuth is running strong in the 2008 World Series of Poker Main Event, not only hoping to win the world’s most prestigious live poker tournament – which comes along with a multi-million dollar pay-check, of course – but to win his 12th, record breaking WSOP Bracelet.
Hellmuth already holds the record for the most WSOP Bracelets with 11, but wouldn’t it be oh-so-sweet to raise the bar to 12? Of course it would, and that’s exactly what Phil Hellmuth was aiming to do in this year’s World Series of Poker. Having failed to accomplish this feat during the first 53 preliminary events, it has come down to this – Phil Hellmuth must win the 2008 WSOP Main Event to take home his 12th WSOP Bracelet this year.
Staying on his toes, Phil Hellmuth has thus far outlasted a field of 6,844 as it dwindled to 1,308 at the opening of Day 3. Among the more than 5,000 players to be sent to the rails since the WWSOP Main Event began on July 3rd is last year’s winner, Jerry Yang, along with John Juanda, Eric Lynch, Brian Townsend, Howard Lederer, David Oppenheim, Joe Hachem, the list goes on. And still, Phil Hellmuth, playing as casually as ever, remains in the final standings.
ESPN’s cameras have spent plenty of time shining their bright lights in Hellmuth’s direction, capturing his verbal wrangling with fellow poker players and a miraculously winning hand with pocket 3’s. Who else but the incomparable Phil Hellmuth would raise with pocket 3’s – and win the hand?
Though well below the chip leader, Brian Schaedlich with 801,000, all eyes are on the UltimateBetPoker.com mascot, Phil Hellmuth, as everyone wants to know – can he break his own record and take home a 12th WSOP Bracelet?
