I think that players who learn the math right away will succeed in the long run. One problem is that some overvalue the match and players are just nitpicking whether they may have 8 outs or with some probability only 7,5. If you think like that you'll waste your thoughts and your focus! If you care about odds and pot odds but do not calculate them precisely, you can either play more tables online (more profit) or pay more attention to tells in live poker. you maximaze your expectation that way and not if you care about 3,1 or 3:1 pot odds...
