Tips on Poker Hands

There are many tips and hints to help you gain information on your opponent.

Being able to tell what your opponent’s cards are by the way he looks at his cards can be very helpful. It’s not a tip you can use every time, but it might be the added help you can pick up on, in making the right choice.

At times players look at their cards, pulling the sides up horizontally, pressing the two cards together. You might notice some players have their right thumb covering the value of the card, then looking at first one card, then the next, as they are letting the first one back down. In doing this, they are able to tell what their cards are, by how many pips they see.

  • Four pips = a ten or nine
  • three pips = an eight, seven or a six
  • two pips = a four

If they’re unable to view any pips, they will need to raise the card a little higher to determine whether the card is a two or a three.

Watching how your opponent lifts his cards can be very beneficial. Seeing them lift their card a little higher lets you know that it is most likely a trey or a duce, or even an ace.

With face cards, players are most likely to move their thumb to be able to see if it is a King, a Queen, or a Jack.

Using this hint might help you in trying to decide your opponents hand. Watch the pattern as they view each card, one at a time, Looking at the first two cards low and the third card a little higher, could possibly show they have a wired mid pair or suited connections.

Practicing your ability to try this hint in determining your opponents hand could be well worth the effort in the long run.
